Virtualization creates resources in the form of virtual forms rather than physics (practical). These resources can include servers, operating systems, networks, files, storage, etc. The concept of virtualization is simplified and easy to manage the workload, so that calculations are scalability.

There are seven different types of virtualization, namely operating system virtualization, application virtualization, server virtualization, management virtualization, network virtualization, hardware virtualization and storage virtualization.

Take server virtualization as an example. Here, the physical server uses the software called the management program to be divided into several virtual servers, so that the server resources can be used to the greatest extent. The segmented server is in an isolated environment, so that they will not interfere with the calculation of other servers or sharing resources. Each virtual compartment is called virtual machine (VM) or virtual special server (VPS).

After speaking, the server virtualization may think about "Isn't it the same for cloud computing?" Although it is right, because cloud computing is essentially the product of virtualization, but there is also a difference.

Let's see what cloud computing is.

Compared with technology virtualization, cloud computing is essentially a service that helps to provide computing services. This includes services such as software, networks, servers, databases, storage such as cloud (that is, the Internet). Simply put, virtualization can survive without cloud computing, but on the contrary, cloud computing resources can be used on demand on the Internet. Companies that provide such services are called "cloud suppliers."

There are three different types of cloud models, namely public clouds, private clouds and mixed clouds.

In the public cloud, the server is shared between multiple users and managed by a third -party cloud console. In the private cloud, the entire server is assigned to an organization, and the space is not shared with anyone outside. Finally, as the name suggests, the mixed cloud is the combination of public cloud and private cloud, providing the best of the two worlds.

In addition to different cloud models, there are even three services provided by the cloud.

Infrastructure is the service (IaaS), the platform is the service (PaaS) and the software as the service (SaaS). Each of these services is based on each other and helps to achieve different business goals. According to business needs, you can choose a cloud service that suits you.

  Virtualization and cloud computing:

After understanding the basic differences between virtualization and cloud computing, now see which one of the two is more advantageous. Ideally, virtualization has more advantages than cloud computing. However, this depends entirely on the types and requirements of the business.

For example, in public clouds, computing resources are shared between all users and does not involve security. This means that if user A uses more resources, then other users must make compromises. This may affect the speed and loading time of the website. With the private cloud, all these problems have been solved, because the server is using the true benefit of virtualization, and the control of users in management resources and Ling Guoxing

On the other hand, through virtualization, users share the same space with other users, but they do not use the same resources. The advantage of this is that the server can be used, because multiple systems and applications can be installed on the same physical hardware. Therefore, virtualization is more cost -effective than cloud computing.

Speaking of this, does it mean that every company should use virtualization rather than cloud computing? No, it depends on business types and needs, and its advantages are different.

Determine which kind of company that suits you

As an enterprise, if you are looking for a deeper and customized server environment, virtualization is a solution. Specifically, if you want to have a complete root access to all resources, the VPS host is the best solution.

And if it is a growth company that wants to outsourcing IT resources, you should choose cloud computing. Regarding the host, if you want the website to expand easily when you need it, the cloud virtual host is an effective choice.

In addition, cloud computing and virtualization are similar in work, but they are not the same. However, it is important to clearly understand their meaning, because most people are confused and interchangeably use them to cause many confusion. It is hoped that this article will help clear any confusion about virtualization and cloud computing.
